What the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Knows About Gate Security
We here at Trinity Gate and Door are passionate about high quality security. Whether it involves installing the best access control system for a residential building or whether it consists of us helping your business find the best gate for the job, we are here to make sure your property is as secure as possible. Based off some data provided by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) we are glad to see we aren’t the only ones.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the government body that develops, regulates, monitors and investigates a variety of vital energy industries in this country. From hydropower plants to hydroelectric dams, to natural gas and pipelines, FERC is at the front of the line making sure business is being run with both security and precaution.
The FERC site provides an abundance of resources, documents and guidelines for those in the industry to assist them in matters such as licensing, compliance and general guidelines. For example, for those looking for the updated Hydropower Compliance Handbook from December 2015, the FERC website is where you go to find it.
What interests us here at Trinity Gate and Door is the emphasis FERC places on the importance of having proper fencing and gates with all Hydro projects. Our team at Trinity Gate and Door already knows how important a properly installed gate is for any location that requires security, so it is reassuring to see the government sees this as well.
Several FERC licensees requested a sample Security Plan for Hydropower Projects, which FERC then supplied on their site. Within this security plan readers will find under Section 4 the subtitle “Security Systems.” The first subsection within Section 4 is titled: “Fencing & Gates.”
The subsection of “Fencing & Gates” begins with the line, “fencing is the first layer of security at all of our Hydro projects.” Before anything, FERC identifies quality fencing as the number one security priority. Before lighting, keys, or surveillance cameras, FERC places the utmost importance on the need for properly installed fencing and gates.
In addition, they emphasize how access points and gates need to be secured either with a heavy duty pad lock, electronic access card credentials or via a remote gate fob. FERC is very clear on the importance of making sure Hydropower projects have quality security with both its fencing and its gates.
